Falcons Fall In Five To Ball State In The MAC Championship

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program faced Ball State for the MAC Championship on Sunday (Nov. 24), falling by a score of 3-2. The Falcons close the tournament as the runner-up and will wait to hear what the postseason brackets will look like. The NCAA Selection Show will be on ESPNU on Dec. 1 at 8:30 p.m. with the NIVC selecting their competitors soon after.Â

Play-By-Play Notes
- Ball State began the match on top in the first set, jumping to a 12-7 lead before the first stoppage, coming via a Bowling Green timeout.Â
- The Falcons went on to have a 3-0 run later in the set to move the score to 17-16 Ball State with the Cardinals using a timeout to break the action.Â
- The next pause came with the score at 21-21 with the Falcon bench being the one to call the timeout.Â
- Out of the timeout, the Falcons rattled off two points to gain a 23-21 lead followed by a Ball State timeout.Â
- The run continued into a 4-0 run to give the Falcons the first set for a 1-0 advantage.
- The second set saw Ball State jump to another lead before the first stoppage, being a media timeout, with the score at 15-11 Cardinals.Â
- Ball State's increased in the set to 22-16 late when the Falcons took a timeout to pause the match.Â
- From there, the Cardinals closed out the set for a 25-17 win to even the match at a set apiece.Â
- Towards the beginning of the third set, the Falcons went on a 3-0 run to take an 8-7 lead.
- Ball State battled back to bring the score to 15-12 when a media timeout broke the action.Â
- The lead continued to grow for the Cardinals, going up to 19-13 before the Falcons called a timeout.
- Momentum for Ball State carried through the timeout, moving up to 23-14 before another BG timeout.Â
- Out of the timeout, Bowling Green went on a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 23-17 with Ball State calling a timeout of their own.Â
- The Cardinals closed out the set with a 25-18 score for the third set to take a 2-1 advantage.Â
- In the fourth set, the score swayed back-and-forth before Ball State took a 9-7 lead with Bowling Green calling a timeout.Â
- Two 3-0 runs that were separated by one Ball State point gave the Falcons a 13-10 lead with the Cardinals taking a timeout of their own.Â
- The Falcons went on another 3-0 run to 18-14 with the Cardinals calling a timeout.Â
- The Falcons closed out the set with a 25-18 victory to force a fifth set at the Stroh Center.Â
- The fifth set began with Ball State ahead 5-1 before the Orange and Brown stopped the action with a timeout.Â
- The next timeout also came from the Falcon bench with the score at 10-3 Cardinals.Â
- Ball State's lead stayed intact with a 15-5 fifth set win to take the match.Â
Strong Individual PerformancesÂ
- Isabelle Marciniak led the Falcons in the match, recording 45 assists while also having seven digs and three block assists. Marciniak's career assist total now stands at 3,848.Â
- As for digs, Julia Walz paced Bowling Green with 34, moving her season total to 644 on the year, placing her fifth all-time for single season digs, surpassing Chelsey Meek's 2007 total of 629.Â
- Katelyn Meyer moved up the all-time list for single season attack attempts with 54 on the night, now with 1,287 which puts her fifth all-time. Of the 54 attempts, Meyer landed a team-high 19 kills.
- Katie Kidwell was atop the block list, recording seven total blocks, one solo and six assists, while also having 14 kills.Â
- Also in kills, Petra Indrova joined in on double-digit kills with 10.Â

- The Falcons will await to see what the postseason holds until Dec.1 when both the NCAA and NIVC announce the fields for each tournament.Â
