Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program advanced to the second round of the NIVC following a four-set win over Purdue Fort Wayne Thursday night (Dec. 5) at the Stroh Center. The Falcons claimed the first two sets before the Mastodons forced a fourth, where the Orange and Brown secured the win. The win marks the first postseason victory for BGSU since 2012 and advances Bowling Green to the second round, which will be played Friday night (Dec. 6) at 7 p.m. against TCU at the Stroh Center. TCU defeated Miami (OH) earlier Friday in four sets to advance to face BGSU.

Play-By-Play Notes

The first stoppage of the game came from a timeout by the Mastodons with the Falcons leading 9-3.
The Falcons extended their lead to 18-10 before Purdue Fort Wayne called their second timeout of the set.
Bowling Green would continue a run that went as far as 5-0, extending their lead to 20-10 before the Mastodons landed another point.
The lead would again extend for the Falcons into a 25-12 set win to give Bowling Green the 1-0 advantage.
In the second set, Bowling Green was again ahead at the first stoppage, coming via a media timeout, with a 15-12 score.
The Falcons' lead grew to 19-14 in the set with Purdue Fort Wayne calling a timeout to pause the action.
The lead for the Falcons pushed into a 25-18 second set victory to give the Orange and Brown a two-set advantage in the match.
The third set would swing to Purdue with a 25-17 set win to force a fourth set.
Play in the fourth set ran until a media timeout stopped the action with the Falcons ahead 15-12.
The Mastodons took a timeout of their own with the BGSU lead growing to 19-14 late in the fourth set.
The Falcons sealed the deal with a 25-19 victory over the Mastodons in the fourth set to claim the match and advance to the second round.

Strong Individual Performances

Isabelle Marciniak topped the stat sheet for the Falcons with yet another double-double with 42 assists and 12 digs. The double-double is Marciniak's tenth of the season while she also registered a triple-double during the MAC Tournament.
In digs, the Falcons as a team totaled 80, being led by Julia Walz with 20. She was joined in double-digits by Paulina Iacobelli (15), Kerstie Shaw (12) and Marciniak (12).
Walz also tallied three service aces, tying Katie Kidwell for the team lead. Marciniak added a pair while Shaw chipped in one as well.
On the attack, Katelyn Meyer led the Falcons with 18 kills. Kidwell also reached double-digits, landing 12 attacks.
In addition, Kidwell also was tied for the team lead in blocks assists with three. She was joined at the top of the stat sheet by Nikolija Katanic and Meyer.

Up Next

The Falcons will return to the court on Friday (Dec. 6) to face TCU in the second round of the NIVC with a 7 p.m. first serve at the Stroh Center.
