Falcons Look To Halt The Chargers As WCHA Play Resumes This Weekend

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University hockey team will return to the ice on Friday and Saturday (Dec. 6-7) to take on Alabama Huntsville at the Slater Family Ice Arena.Â

Weekend Promotions
Friday's game against the Chargers will serve as Fan Appreciation Night for the Falcons. Fans will be able to purchase $1 tickets in advance while concessions and parking at Perry Field House will also be $1. The student theme for the game will be an Orange Out for Falcon Friday. As for Saturday's game, the Falcons will take over the galaxy far, far away with Star Wars Night with Skate with the Falcons will take place following the game.Â
Halting the Chargers
Alabama Huntsville will enter this weekend's series holding a 1-12-1 record on the season while being 1-8-1 in WCHA play. After beginning the season 0-8-0, the Chargers tied Alaska Anchorage before losing another three straight to extend the winless streak to 12 to begin the season. This past weekend, the streak came to a close with UAH picking up a 4-2 win over Northern Michigan on Friday (Nov. 29) before falling on Saturday (Nov. 30). The Chargers are led by junior Christian Rajic who leads the team in goals with three and points with eight while his five assists are second on the team.Â
The Series At A Glance
In 33 matchups between the Falcons and Chargers, Bowling Green has come out victorious on 25 occasions, including a 7-1 victory in the last meeting. Over the course of the series, Alabama Huntsville has won back-to-back meetings just once, taking two over the Falcons at the front end of the 2000-01 season. The longest win streak of the series belongs to the Falcons, beginning on January 3, 2014 and lasting until November 21, 2016 with eight wins for the Orange and Brown in the process. This came after a six game win streak as well, leading to the Falcons going 14-1 against the Chargers from October 22, 2010 until November 21, 2015 with the loss being by just an overtime goal.Â
Last Time Out
Last weekend, Bowling Green defeated Notre Dame on Friday night (Nov. 29) by a final score of 5-2 at the Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, Ind. In the first meeting of the weekend, Brandon Kruse logged his first goal of the season as well as an assist while Alec Rauhauser scored a goal for career point 100. As for Saturday night (Nov. 30), Bowling Green again topped the Fighting Irish in a 5-2 final, this time at the Slater Family Ice Arena. Frederic Letourneau logged a goal and an assist in the win for the Falcons while freshman Adam Pitters registered his first collegiate goal. Eric Dop stood between the pipes for both games, seeing the Falcons to victory.Â
Around the WCHA
Last weekend, Minnesota State joined Bowling Green in sweeping a top 10 team, besting Minnesota Duluth both Friday and Saturday. The other four series were all within the WCHA. Bemidji State topped Lake Superior State before going to overtime Saturday with a 2-2 tie. Ferris State followed the same model against Alaska Anchorage, winning Friday and tying Saturday. The other two games ended in weekend splits seeing Alabama Huntsville top Northern Michigan on Friday as well as Alaska beating Michigan Tech. However, Saturday, Northern Michigan and Michigan Tech claimed victories.Â
