Taking On TCU
The Horned Frogs topped Miami on Thursday (Dec. 5) in five sets to advance to the second round of the NIVC against the Falcons. The win marked the first for TCU since Nov. 13 after going through a four-match skid. Against the RedHawks, blocking proved to be a focal point for the Horned Frogs, being led by sophomore Katie Clark with 12 total blocks, which tied the TCU program record and led the team to their tenth win of the season.Â
Last Time Out
The Falcons hosted the first round of the NIVC on Thursday night (Dec. 5), playing the second of two matches on day's schedule. The Orange and Brown faced Purdue Fort Wayne for the first time this season, having last opposed the Mastodons during a 2018 exhibition in which Bowling Green won in three sets. In this season's edition of the matchup, the Falcons were once again victorious, besting the Mastodons over four sets to advance to the second round of the NIVC. Isbelle Marciniak logged her tenth double-double of the season while four Falcons reached double-digits in digs. As for kills, Katelyn Meyer topped the list with 18.Â
Attacking At An All-Time Rate
On the season, sophomore Katelyn Meyer has 1,334 attack attempts, putting her fifth all-time for attack attempts in a single season. Meyer needs just three attacks to move up to third all-time while just 103 attempts stand between Meyer and being the all-time leader for attack attempts in a single season. Meyer is only the second Falcon since 2002 to crack the top 10 for the list and the first since 2012 when Paige Penrod broke the record with 1,436 attack attempts.Â
Twenty For Tomic
Coach Tomic and the Falcons claimed win number 20 of the season during the first round of NIVC. The win marks the third time in Coach Tomic's tenure that Bowling Green has posted a 20-win season, doing so in 2012 and 2016. A year ago, the Orange and Brown were a win shy of the mark with 19. While with Bowling Green, Coach Tomic has won 127 matches, 77 of which have been during MAC play. For her coaching career, Tomic is nearing the 300 win mark, currently with 285 over her 15 years as a head coach.Â
