BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team trailed Oakland University by four points with just 1:26 to play, but the Falcons closed the game on a 9-2 run to earn a 68-65 win Saturday (Dec. 7) on Star Wars Night. The non-conference contest was played at the Stroh Center in front of a lively crowd of 2,124 Falcon fans.
Junior forward Daeqwon Plowden had a career night to lead the Falcons. Plowden recorded the third double-double of his career, as he finished with 10 rebounds and a career-high 23 points.
The Falcons move to 7-2 on the season with the victory. Bowling Green is a perfect 4-0 in 2019-20 inside the friendly confines of the Stroh Center.
With just 1:25 left on the clock, junior forward Trey Diggs nailed a three-pointer in front of the BGSU bench to trim the Oakland lead to one point. Senior guard Michael Laster drove the ball on the play, and found Diggs wide open in the near corner. Following a defensive stop, sophomore guard Caleb Fields found Diggs under the basket. Diggs converted a tough layup to give the Falcons a 64-63 lead with just 53 seconds to play.
Oakland turned the ball over on its ensuing possession, and Laster would go on to make four-consecutive free throws to ice the game. OU threw in a layup at the buzzer to conclude the game's scoring.
