
Swimming And Diving Builds Strong Lead In Day One Against Rockets

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving program jumped out to an early lead against the Rockets in the first half of a two-day meet. After day one, BGSU leads 110-57. The Falcons flexed their muscles early and often in the first day of the competition, claiming multiple first place finishes. The momentum will be key in Saturday's (Feb. 9) finale that will begin at 11 a.m.

Fast Finishing Falcons
- Bowling Green started the day with a statement win. The relay team of Daisy Platts, Nikki Borgerding, Sarah Hennings and Franziska Wohlert took first place in the 400 Medley with a time of 3:48.72, just :00.25 ahead of the Rockets' second place finish.
- The Falcons kept momentum in the second event, the 500 Freestyle. Kellie House touched the wall first for BG, claiming a first place finish at 5:01.26. House was followed by Maddy Andrews, giving the Falcons the top two spots.
- Borgerding ended being the Falcons' top finisher in the 100 Breaststroke, coming in second with a time of 1:05.45, just :00.38 shy of first.
- Hennings put Bowling Green back on top, winning the 100 Butterfly by a time of 56.29, edging the next two finishers by :00.07 and :00.27 respectively.
- Platts tallied another top finish for the Falcons in the 100 Backstroke, closing with a time of 55.53. Lauren Sullivan held off a Rocket for third, beating her opponent out by just :00.02. Not far behind was Wohlert, finishing at 57.93.
- Kylie Mosset added more points to Bowling Green's total, taking first place in the 3-meter dive event with a score of 270.45. Moset topped teammate Talisa Lemke, who finished second with a score of 254.48.
- In the 200 Freestyle, Platts pulled in another victory for the Falcons beating teammate Kellie House for first. Platts posted a time of 1:54.19 while House was close behind at 1:54.64. Maddy Andrews tallied a fourth place finish as well, coming in at 1:55.00.
- Emily Verbrugge came from behind in the 400 IM to claim yet another first place finish for the Orange and Brown, closing with a time of 4:31.83. Verbrugge was followed by Mary Edwards in third, who concluded the event at 4:35.56.
- In the day's final event, the 200 Freestyle Relay, the team of Anna Eriksson, Wohlert, Noelle Lavigne and Ashleigh Franks took first with a time of 1:36.41, holding off a Rocket team by :00.11
