BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team was defeated by the University of Toledo on Saturday (Feb. 9) night by a score of 78-71. With the loss, Bowling Green drops to 16-7. The Falcons still remain in first place in the Mid-American Conference with an 8-2 league record.
The game was played in front of a sold out Stroh Center. For the second-straight home game, the Falcons played in front of a standing room only crowd of 5,000 fans.
With just over three minutes to play, Bowling Green held a 68-67 lead. Toledo's Jaelan Sanford drilled a three-pointer with exactly three minutes left to give the Rockets the lead for good. The Falcons pulled within a single point at 70-69 with 2:11 to go, but Toledo scored the next seven points to ice the game.
Bowling Green shot just 38.8 percent (26-of-67) for the contest, while the Rockets shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58). Toledo made 10 three-pointers compared to BGSU's 5-for-27 (18.5 percent) clip. UT's Chris Darrington led the Rockets with 20 points.
The Falcons were led by 17 points from junior guard Dylan Frye. Senior forward Demajeo Wiggins notched his 15th double-double of the season, as he finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds on 7-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Sophomore forward Daeqwon Plowden posted 11 points and six rebounds, while redshirt-sophomore guard Justin Turner and junior guard Michael Laster scored nine point apiece.
