Turner And Wiggins Earn All-Conference Honors
March 11, 2019 | Men's Basketball
Turner becomes the first BGSU sophomore to earn First Team All-MAC honors since Cornelius Cash in 1972-73. He's just the sixth Falcon in school history to earn First Team honors as a sophomore. Wiggins has now been named Second Team All-MAC for the second-consecutive season.
Turner, after taking home Honorable Mention All-MAC honors last season, finished the regular season ranked third in scoring (18.7 PPG). Turner averaged a career-high 3.8 rebounds to go along with a career-high 3.1 assists. Turner ranked 12th in the league in assists, and 10th in steals (1.4 SPG). In MAC play, Turner ranks fourth in three-point shooting (39.6 percent).
Earlier this season, Turner became the first player in school history to score 1,000 career points before reaching junior-year eligibility. The Detroit native has been named MAC East Player of the Week three times in 2018-19. Turner has scored 30-plus points twice on the season, while having scored 20-plus points a total of 16 times. Turner currently ranks 37th all-time in scoring at BGSU with 1,086 points.
Wiggins, one of two players in the league to have averaged a double-double this season, averaged 12.3 points and a career-high 10.9 rebounds. Wiggins sits 10th in the country in rebounding average, and 12th in double-doubles (18). Wiggins has posted 40 double-doubles across his career, which ranks 11th amongst Division I active players. Wiggins was named MAC East Player of the Week twice in 2018-19. Wiggins ranks second in the league in rebounding and first in defensive rebounds per game (8.0).
The Toledo native became the third player in school history in 2018-19 to enter the 1,000-point, 1,000-rebound club, joining legends Nate Thurmond and Cornelius Cash. Heading into the postseason, Wiggins ranks third all-time in rebounding at BGSU with 1,041 rebounds. He sits 22nd on BGSU's all-time scoring list with 1,272 points.
Bowling Green will play in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland on March 14. The Falcons will play the winner of tonight's Eastern Michigan versus Ball State first-round contest. BGSU's game will begin approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 6:30 p.m. quarterfinal game.
