Comella, Tavpash Named MAC Doubles Team Of The Week For Second Time This Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio - Senior Paula Comella and junior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash of Bowling Green State University's tennis programs were named MAC Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, as announced Wednesday (March 27) afternoon.
Over the past week, Comella and Tavpash compiled a 3-1 record at No. 1 doubles. The duo began the week on the road in San Diego, Calif. on Monday, March 18, topping Principia College's Cooley and Kitchingman by a score of 8-0, clinching the doubles point for the Falcons. BGSU went on the win the match 7-0 to clinch their fourth sweep of the season.
After a hard fought match with Clemson's Leduc and Navarro that ended in a 6-3 loss, Comella and Tavpash rebounded for their third match of the week. On Friday, March 22 the duo captured their first Mid-American Conference win of the year, besting Buffalo's Chantal Martinez Blanco and Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou by a score of 6-2.
Comella and Tavpash carried that momentum into their fourth and final match of the week on Sunday (March 24). Against Akron's Vasilescu and Pedroso, the BGSU duo picked up their third win of the week, winning 6-0.
This is the second time this season that Comella and Tavpash have been named Doubles Team of the Week. They were also named a month ago on February 27 following wins over Wright State and Indianapolis. Â Last season, the duo received the recognition on Feb. 28 after claiming victories against Notre Dame and Detroit, 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. Comella and Tavpash also received recognition during the 2016-17 season twice, with Comella also being named in 2015-16 with then partner Drew Fillis.
The wins over the weekend helped both Comella and Tavpash move up the all-time doubles wins list at Bowling Green. Comella now sits No. 6 all-time with 76 doubles wins, while Tavpash moved up to No. 25 with 56.
Comella and Tavpash, along with the rest of the Falcon tennis team, will be back in action on Friday, March 29 when BGSU hosts Northern Illinois at 1 p.m. in the Perrysburg Tennis Center. The match will be Bowling Green's third MAC match of the season and their first at home. The Orange and Brown are currently 7-8 on the season, while the Huskies are 5-10.
