Falcons Head South To Take Part In Border Olympics Tournament

BGSU continues its spring season in Houston in a large tournament field
Laredo, Texas – The BGSU Men's Golf team will continue its spring season by playing in the Border Olympics, hosted by the University of Houston in Houston, Texas on March 11-12. The Falcons competed in this event last year and finished tied for seventh place, including Rodrigue Vie individually finishing tied for seventh. This will be the largest playing field BGSU has played in this year with 17 total teams competing.Â
BGSU continues their spring season after playing in the Colleton River Collegiate Tournament and finishing in 13th place last week. Of the six tournaments BGSU has played there has been at least one Falcon that has finished in the top 20, with Trey Walker the leader last week posting a +3 (71-76-72-219) score at the Colleton River Collegiate Tournament.Â
In five of the six tournaments BGSU has played in this year, the Falcons have finished seventh or better, including finishing runner up at the Earl Yestingmeier Match Play Tournament.Â
Some other standout individual performances included Rodrigue Vie winning the MAC Men's Golfer of the Week on Sept. 13. Vie shot -7 over three rounds at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational to finish fourth out of 75 golfers at the event. His 67-73-69-209 was the top BG result and he led the team to a third-place finish out of 13 teams, including defeating MAC-rival Toledo. Pablo Heredia Iglesias had two top ten finishes in the fall campaign, finishing T-4th at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate and finishing T-10th at the Dayton Flyer Invitational.

Austin, University of Louisiana-Monroe, University of Missouri Kansas-City, UT Rio Grande Valley, University of Texas San Antonio and Western Kentucky University.
