Clair has been named third team All-MAC in each of his first two seasons in the Orange and Brown. As a freshman, he broke the school record by averaging 6.8 yards per carry. A dual threat as both a running back and pass catcher, Clair has 1,427 career rushing yards to go with 32 career receptions. He has scored 13 career touchdowns and has 1,988 all-purpose yards.
He currently ranks 27th all-time in rushing yards at BGSU and is on pace to finish his career in the top five. His seven career 100-yard rushing games place him 11th in school history and his current average of 5.9 yards per carry is on pace to break the school record.
Wisconsin's Jonathan Taylor, the 2018 Doak Walker Award winner, leads the list of preseason candidates. Clemson's Travis Etienne also returns after being a finalist a year ago and averaging more than eight yards per carry. Returning semifinalists include Arizona State's Eno Benjamin, Boston College's AJ Dillion and Arizona's J.J. Taylor.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will name ten semifinalists in November and three finalists, as voted on by the Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee, will be announced on Nov. 20. The committee will cast a second vote beginning Dec. 2 to determine the recipient. The National Selection Committee consists of past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members and selected special representatives.
The recipient of the 2019 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on Thursday, Dec. 12 on ESPN.
The award, which will name its 30th recipient in 2019, is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
Clair is the second Falcon to be named to a preseason watch list in recent days. Long snapper Gabe Skrobot has been named a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, given to individuals who make an impact off the field.
