Known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service", the Wuerffel Trophy is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
Skrobot, who has played in all 24 games over the past two seasons for the Falcons as a long snapper, is a MAC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete and a Google Cloud Academic All-District performer. He has been named Academic All-MAC and was a Wuerffel Trophy Award nominee a year ago. Earlier this year, he was nominated for the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
Â
Among his many charitable activities, Skrobot spearheaded Christmas with the Falcons, an initiative designed to serve underprivileged children in the Bowling Green community. He has also volunteered with Wood County Hospital and Rally Cap Sports (serving children with mental disabilities). Skrobot also holds his pilot's license and is a member of the Dean's List.
The SEC led all conferences with 14 players appearing on the 2019 watch list. Following the SEC is the PAC 12 with 12 players, the ACC with 10 and the Mountain West Conference with 10 players each and the Sun Belt Conference and Conference USA with 9 players each. The MAC, Big Ten Conference and Big 12 Conference submitted 7 players for consideration, while the American Athletic Conference had 4 players named to the list. All FBS Conferences are represented on the list, as were Independent representatives Notre Dame and BYU with 1 nominee each.
Skrobot joins a group of Falcons who have been named to preseason watch lists. Along with his own nomination for the Good Works Team, senior center Jack Kramer is on the Rimington Award Preseason Watch List, given to the top center in college football. Junior running back Andrew Clair was named to the Doak Walker Award Watch List, given annually to the nation's best running back.
