Bowling Green wins five set nail-biter in Rochester

Rochester, Mich. - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program came away with their fifth win of the season after taking the Oakland Golden Grizzlies to five sets on Tuesday (Sept. 10). The Falcons and Golden Grizzlies went back and forth with BGSU taking the first, third and fifth sets to claim the victory in Rochester.Â

Play-By-Play Notes
- In the first set, the Falcons jumped out early to a 4-0 lead, progressing to 7-1 before the Golden Grizzlies took their first timeout of the set.Â
- With the score close at 17-13, Jacqueline Askin served up back-to-back service aces to force another Oakland timeout and increase the lead to 19-13.
- The Grizzlies made a late push in the first set, but the Falcons were able to hold off the run, taking the set 25-22.Â
- Much like the first set, the second set saw its share of ties with BGSU calling a timeout with the score at 10-9 Oakland.Â
- After trailing by as many as five, the Falcons fought back in the second set to bring the score within one, but the Golden Grizzlies took the set.
- Throughout the third set, neither team was able to build a lead larger than four with the Falcons tying the match late at 20-20 before taking the set 25-22.
- The fourth set was more of the same, being close the whole way before Oakland claimed a 25-21 set win to force a fifth.Â
- In the fifth set, the Golden Grizzlies were the first to reach eight points after a 6-6 tie in the set.Â
- In the fifth, the Falcons proved to be once again dominant, commanding the set, and win, for Bowling Green.Â
Strong Individual PerformancesÂ
- The Falcons were once again led the senior Isabelle Marciniak who chalked up a season-high 50 assists while also tallying 13 digs, achieving her third double-double of the young season.Â
- As for kills, Petra Indrova was at the forefront of the Falcons, registering 19. Jacqueline Askin and Lexi Sauber hit double digits as well with 12 and 10 kills respectively. In addition to having 10 kills, Sauber also had the highest hitting percentage for the team with .364.Â
- Julia Walz led Bowling Green in digs with 28, notching over 20 for the sixth time in seven games this season.
