Bowling Green Claims Two Bracket Titles At BGSU Invitational

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University tennis program took first place in two of the brackets at the BGSU Invitational this weekend. Senior Ayumi Sasaki claimed the Brown Bracket title, beating out fellow Falcon Joanna Tsadari. As for doubles, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Marta Bettinelli claimed the Grit Bracket championship to kickoff the 2019-20 season.

Brown Bracket (Singles)
Semifinals
- Ayumi Sasaki took on Northern Illinois' Paula Veyhle in the semifinals of the Brown Bracket. The match saw Sasaki advance to the finals, utilizing 6-1 and 6-4 sets to move on.
- Another BGSU v. NIU matchup in the bracket, Joanna Tsadari faced Julia Dmitrieva, winning 6-3, 6-4 to make it an all Bowling Green final in the Brown Bracket.
- Sasaki and Tsadari went head-to-head in an all Orange and Brown final for the Brown Bracket on Saturday, seeing Sasaki being victorious with scores of 7-5 and 6-2. Sasaki won the Brown Bracket with Tsadari placing second.Â
Orange Bracket (Singles)
Semifinals
- In the semifinals of the Orange Bracket, Yulia Kapitanova topped Northern Illinois' Maria Potsi, 7-5, 6-1, advancing to the finals in her inaugural invitational with the Falcons.
- Ana Thielman of Oakland was the opponent for Kapitanova in the finals with Thielman taking the title in straight sets with scores of 6-1 in each. Kapitanova would finish as the runner-up in the bracket.Â
Grit Bracket (Doubles)
Semifinals
- Against Toledo's duo of Deedee Leenabanchong and Patricia Panta, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Marta Bettinelli captured a 6-2 win to advance to the finals of the Grit Bracket.
- As for the BGSU duo og Kapitanova and Sasaki, they fell short to Oakland's Aarja Chakraborty and Darya Maltseva 6-1.
- In the finals of the Grit Bracket, Tavpash and Bettinelli dominated the set, besting Oakland's Chakraborty and Matseva with a score of 6-0 to win the bracket.Â
