Falcons Move Up To Finish Fourth In Opening Tournament Of Season

Strong performances from Tom North, Rodrigue Vie put BG in fourth place
Richmond, K.. – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team opened its 2019 season this weekend and played in the final round of the Raising Canes Invitational today at Eastern Kentucky, shooting a team score of 857 (+17) to place fourth on the tournament.Â
Last year the Falcons opened the season finishing in third place in their opening tournament. Bowling Green also had one other tournament, the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, where they finished in fourth place or higher in 2018.
There were three Falcons that finished in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard, including two that finished in the top five.Â
Freshman Dylan Fitchet, playing in his first collegiate match, shot a total score of 215 to finish T-20th. Fitchet played as an individual and finished third among all individuals for the tournament. Â
Rodrigue Vie and Tom North each finished T-4th overall for the tournament. Vie, who is no stranger to the top of the leaderboard, finished with a total score of 211 for +1 on the weekend. Vie shot seven birdies for the tournament and stayed steady going 71-71-69 over three rounds. This is the highest Vie has finished since last year's opening tournament at the Fuzzy Zoeller Invitational where he also finished T-4th.Â
Tom North, playing in his first event for the Falcons after transferring this offseason, also finished T-4th with a total score of 211. North jumped up 19 spots on the leaderboard from yesterday after shooting a 68 on Sunday. North shot a team leading 12 birdies.Â
Ian Mackenzie-Olson, Nick Hofland and Curtis Hughes all finished in the top 50 individually. Mackenzie-Olson, who is playing in his first tournament for BG, finished T-50th with a total score of 223 (+13). Hofland finished T-37th with a total score of 219 (+9) and had six birdies including the lone eagle for the Falcons on the weekend. Hughes finished T-43rd with a total score of 221 (+11) including posting seven birdies during round one on Saturday.Â
As a team BG was second among teams in birdies at 45. BG was also second in par 4 scoring average at 4.10. Individually Rodrigue Vie was third among all players, and first for the Falcons, with 39 pars for the tournament. Tom North and Curtis Hughes were both near the top of the birdies leaderboard with North having 12 and Hughes having 11. Nick Hofland was one of eight players to have an eagle on the tournament and was the lone Falcon.Â
