MATT FANNON INTERVIEW (Sept. 18, 2019)
FIVE FASCINATING FALCON FACTS
• Redshirt junior Nikki Cox was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday (Sept. 17), earning that honor for the first time in her career. Cox scored both of BGSU's goals in last Thursday's (Sept. 12) match at Michigan State, for her second multiple-goal game as a Falcon and the third of her collegiate career.
• Cox, a transfer from UNC-Wilmington, scored those two goals exactly six minutes apart in the opening half at MSU. She now has 28 points in 29 career matches as a Falcon, including a team-leading nine points this season to date. Cox is tied for the BGSU lead in both goals and assists, with three of each.Â
• Four of the Falcons' first seven matches of the season have gone to overtime. BG played a total of five OT contests in 2018, and that was the Falcons' highest single-season total of overtime matches in eight years (since BG played six such matches in 2010). The school record for OT matches in a season is nine, set in 2007.
• A total of 21 players saw action for the Falcons in Sunday's (Sept. 15) 1-1 draw at DePaul. That group included Talia Brown, who played in her first match since the 2017 season, along with Lena Kovar, who made her first appearance in three weeks.
• Senior Hannah Dolfuss made her first start of the season at DePaul, three days after freshman Makenzie Ortman made her first collegiate start at Michigan State. A total of 19 different Falcons – including six of the team's nine freshmen – have started at least one match this season.

THE OPPONENT
• West Virginia is 3-3-1 heading into a Friday home match vs. Fairleigh Dickinson. The Mountaineers have beaten Duquesne, High Point and Stony Brook by a combined 11-1, and the team's losses have come to nationally-ranked opponents (No. 3 Stanford, No. 6 Virginia and No. 15 Georgetown). WVU has played four top-15 foes, tying No. 8 Penn State, and the Mountaineers are 3-0-1 at home to date. Julianne Vallerand has team-leading totals of five goals and 11 points, while Nicole Payne has six points on three goals. In goal, Rylee Foster has 17 saves and a 1.71 GAA. Head coach Nikki Izzo-Brown's team was picked to win the Big 12 Conference in the preseason coaches poll, after winning the conference tourney title a year ago. The 2018 team went 15-4-4 overall and 7-2-0 in league play, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Championships.
THE SERIES
• BGSU trails West Virginia, 4-0-0, in the all-time series. The Mountaineers swept a home-and-home set in BG's first two seasons as a program, with a win in Morgantown in 1997 and a victory at Cochrane Stadium the following year. WVU also picked up a home victory in 2007, and the most recent meeting saw the Mountaineers post a 3-0 win in BG in 2010.Â
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the WVU match, the Falcons will open the Mid-American Conference slate with a pair of home matches. BGSU will face Akron on Friday, Sept. 27, before meeting Buffalo on Sunday, Sept. 29.
