West Lafayette, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University tennis program continued play at the Purdue Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 21). Senior Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and junior Marta Bettinelli claimed their second doubles title of the year, winning the Black Doubles Draw after winning their bracket last weekend at the BGSU Invitational. With doubles concluded, single play will finish up tomorrow.

Black Bracket (Doubles)

Tavpash and Bettinelli began doubles play in the semifinals for the day, taking on Louisville's duo of Wong and Vujanic, winning by a dominant score of 8-0. From there, the BGSU duo faced DePaul's Avgeri and Kuzmenkova, winning 8-7 (7-5) to claim the bracket title.

Purdue Bracket (Doubles)

The Falcon duo of Magro and Silveira took on Wright State's Jones and Reynolds, winning by a score of 8-4 to win the finals of the consolation side of the bracket.

Gold Bracket (Doubles)

On the consolation side of things, Sasaki and Kapitanova fell to Bou and Moureau of Connecticut before winning against Eastern Michigan's Mayerova and Pommiers to conclude their doubles play for the weekend.

Schwartz Bracket (Singles)

In the semifinals of the consolation bracket, sophomore Laura Silveira went up against Lara Slisko of Northern Illinois, using three sets and a handful of extra points to capture a win by a score 2-6, 7-5, 7-6(4). Next up for Silveira will be Miami's Janelle Ghanem who advanced with a score of 6-1, 6-4 over Victoria Sec of Ball State.

Basham Bracket (Singles)

Playing in the semifinals, junior Yulia Kapitanova topped Eastern Michigan's Natalia Regalado by a score of 7-5, 6-0 to advance to the finals of the Basham Bracket. Tomorrow Kapitanova will face Fernanda Naves of Northern Illinois.
Naves advanced to the finals following a win over another Falcon, Maria Jose (Majo) Magro. In three sets, Magro won the second set, but fell in the first and third with scores of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Magro moves to the third place match tomorrow against Regalado, who lost to Kapitanova.

Boiler Up Bracket (Singles)

Playing against Diana Wong of Louisville, freshman Joanna Tsadari fell by scores of 7-6 (3), 6-3 in the semifinals. Like Magro, Tsadari will play in a third place match tomorrow, taking on Emma Peeler of Ball State.

Hammer Down Bracket (Singles)

On the consolation side of the bracket, Marta Bettinelli fell to Vasavi Ganesan of Eastern Michigan, 6-2, 7-5. Bettinelli will play tomorrow against Maddox Bandy of Lipscomb.

Gold Bracket (Singles)

In the semifinals of the bracket, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash fell short against Louisville's Rhea Verma with scores of 6-2, 7-5. Tavpash will play for third place tomorrow against Melati Devi of Miami.
Similar to Bettinelli in the Hammer Down Bracket, senior Ayumi Sasaki fell to Purdue's Seira Shimizu. After winning the first set 6-1, Sasaki came up short in the next two sets, 6-4 and 6-3. She will play Emma Zakordoniec from Lipscomb tomorrow.
