Kapitanova Claims Singles Bracket Title At Final Day Of Purdue Invite

West Lafayette, Ind. - The Bowling Green State University tennis program concluded play at the Purdue Invitational on Sunday, seeing five Falcons capture victories in singles play on the day. Of the Falcons' wins, Yulia Kapitanova headlined the list, claiming the title in the Basham Bracket. The win comes as the second bracket won by the Falcons over the weekend after Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Marta Bettinelli won their doubles bracket yesterday.Â

Basham Bracket (Singles)
- The Basham bracket proved to favor the Falcons in the final day of competition. Junior Yulia Kapitanova triumphed over Northern Illinois' Fernanda Naves, winning 6-3 in both sets to capture the bracket title.
- Bowling Green would also claim the third place match as well, seeing freshman Maria Jose (Majo) Magro win 6-3, 6-2 over Eastern Michigan's Natalia Regalado.
Boiler Up Bracket (Singles)
- In another third place match featuring a Falcon freshman, Joanna Tsadari defeated Emma Peeler of Ball State, 6-2, 7-5 in the Boiler Up bracket.Â
Schwartz Bracket (Singles)
- Playing in the finals of the consolation portion of the bracket, sophomore Laura Silveira won in straights set against Miami's Janelle Ghanem with scores of 6-3, 6-2Â
Hammer Down Bracket (Singles)
- In a consolation match, Marta Bettinelli claimed her first singles victory of the weekend, topping Maddox Bandy of Lipscomb in three sets, scored 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-3.
Gold Bracket (Singles)
- Playing for third place in the Gold bracket, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash retired from the match, seeing Miami's Melati Devi take third.
- In the consolation bracket, Ayumi Sasaki fell short to Lipscomb's Emma Zakordoniec in three sets that finished 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.Â
