
Falcons Set To Begin MAC Schedule Against Ohio And Kent State

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program will begin the Mid-American Conference portion of their schedule this weekend traveling to Athens, Ohio on Friday before heading to Kent, Ohio on Saturday. The Falcons will enter with a 6-6 record in non-conference play after going 1-1 against Xavier and Cincinnati last weekend. Within the MAC, BGSU has fared well over the last two seasons, going 13-3 in conference play during both the 2017 and 2018 seasons en route to capturing back-to-back MAC Regular Season championships for the program. In the preseason polls, Bowling Green was selected to finish second in the MAC East, receiving two first place votes behind Miami.

Last Time Out
The Falcons closed out their non-conference schedule this past weekend, traveling to Cincinnati to take part in the Queen City Classic, playing Xavier on Friday (Sept. 20) and Cincinnati on Saturday (Sept. 21). On Friday, Bowling Green utilized a 20-20 double-double from Isabelle Marciniak, the first of her career with 42 assists and a career high 23 digs, propelling the Falcons to a 3-1 win over the Musketeers. Then on Saturday, BGSU fell short against 2018 NCAA Tournament participant Cincinnati in a 3-1 final. The 1-1 weekend, moved BGSU's non-conference record to 6-6 entering MAC play. In previous seasons, the Falcons went 6-7 during 2018 and 4-7 in 2017 in non-conference play, winning the MAC regular season title in both seasons.Â
Scouting The Bobcats
Ohio University will enter Friday's contest holding an 8-5 record on the season in non-conference play. The Bobcats have captured wins in seven of their last eight games with the loss coming against North Texas last Saturday (Sept. 21). During the seven-match win streak, Ohio bested programs such as Connecticut, Virginia, New Mexico and Kansas State while also recording four straight sweeps. As for common opponents, both BGSU and OU faced Wright State in non-conference play. Against the Raiders, the Bobcats won 3-2 while the Falcons won 3-1. All-time, BGSU leads the series with Ohio, 45-38 with Ohio holding the advantage in Athens, winning 19 of the 35 matches played between the two when the Bobcats host. Last year, BGSU was victorious in both matches against OU, winning 3-0 at home and 3-1 on the road.
Scouting The Golden Flashes
The Golden Flashes will head into the weekend holding a 7-5 non-conference record with their MAC opener scheduled against Miami on Friday (Sept. 27). Kent State has lost three of their last four matches, ending the skid with a win over Niagara last Saturday (Sept. 21) by a score of 3-2. Both the Flashes and Falcons have played Charlotte and Cleveland State this season. Kent State lost 3-1 to Charlotte and fell to Cleveland State 3-0. As for Bowling Green, the Falcons won both matches defeating Charlotte 3-0 and Cleveland State 3-1. For the all-time series, the Falcons lead the Flashes with a 57-23 record while also holding the better record of 20-15 when playing in Kent, Ohio. Last year, BGSU won both matches, 3-0 at home and 3-1 on the road.
