SETTING THE SCENE
• The Bowling Green State University women's soccer team wraps up the opening weekend of Mid-American Conference play on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 29). Head coach Matt Fannon and the Falcons face the University at Buffalo in a 1:00 p.m. start at Cochrane Stadium, and admission is free.
FIVE THINGS ABOUT BGSU-BUFFALO
• Both BGSU and UB are off to a 1-0-0 start in MAC play after each team posted a shutout win on Friday night. For the Falcons, sophomore Lynsey Spotts scored her first collegiate goal late in the first half, and the BG defense limited Akron to just one total shot on goal in a 1-0 victory over the Zips.
• Friday's win gave BG a record of 3-0-0 in home matches this season to date, and it increased the Falcons' school-record home unbeaten streak to 14 matches. BGSU is 12-0-2 at Cochrane since a 1-0, double-OT setback to Xavier on Sept. 6, 2018. The Falcons have a record of 20-3-2 in home matches since Matt Fannon assumed the head-coaching helm prior to the 2017 season. In those 25 contests, BGSU has outscored the opponents, 54-18.
• BGSU is now 14-1-1 in home matches (regular-season and tournament) against MAC foes in the Fannon Era, having outscored the opposition, 35-12, in those games. The Falcons are unbeaten in the last 15 home matches vs. MAC schools (13-0-1) since a 2-1 loss to Ball State in Fannon's first-ever MAC matchup (Sept. 22, 2017).
• Buffalo is 4-3-1 on the year, and the Bulls posted a 2-0 win at Toledo on Friday night. UB is 4-1-1 in the last six matches after an 0-2 start to the season. BG leads Buffalo, 15-8-1, in the all-time series, and the Falcons posted a 5-0 victory on the road last season, clinching the MAC's regular-season title in the process. Two years ago, BG posted a pair of come-from-behind victories at Cochrane, with a 3-2 win in the regular-season and a 3-1 triumph in the MAC Tournament's quarterfinal round.
• Sunday is Senior Day at Cochrane Stadium, and the seven seniors in the BGSU program will be recognized in ceremonies prior to kickoff. Those seven seniors are Hannah Dolfuss, Kathleen Duwve, Monica Florez, Maureen Kennedy, Rachel Muller, Kristin Tveit and Chelsee Washington. Sunday will also be Dog Day, with fans encouraged to bring their four-legged friends for an afternoon of fun (editor's note: 10/10, would definitely recommend bringing your good doggo).
DOWN THE ROAD...
• Following the UB match, the Falcons will take to the road for the first time in Mid-American Conference play, heading to Kent State on Friday (Oct. 4), before meeting Ohio in Athens two days later (Oct. 6). BG then returns home to face Central Michigan on Thursday, Oct. 10.
