BGSU Opens Home Schedule With Hampton Inn Bowling Green Invitational This Weekend

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program will return to the Stroh Center to host the Hampton Inn Invitational on Friday, Sept. 6 and Saturday, Sept. 7. With six matches in total, the Falcons will play as the home team in three, hosting Charlotte on Friday at 12:30 p.m., Butler on Friday at 7 p.m. and Cleveland State on Saturday at 2 pm.

Against Butler, the Falcons will be having the banner unveiling of the 2018 MAC Regular Season Championship. Additionally, Saturday's match against Cleveland State will serve as BGSU's Youth Volleyball Day.Â

Last Time Out
The Falcons kicked off their 2019 campaign at the Golden Dome Invitational on August 30 and 31. Bowling Green began the tournament by topping Wright State in four sets, but fell short to La Salle in five sets and then Notre Dame in four, bringing their record to 1-2 after the first tournament of the year. Following the Golden Dome Invitational, Katelyn Meyer and Julia Walz were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Meyer registered a career high 18 kills against Wright State with Walz tallying 20+ digs in each match totaling 78 over the course of the tournament, including a career high 31 against La Salle.Â
Scouting the Bulldogs
Coming in with a 1-2 record after participating in the War Eagle Invitational, hosted by Auburn, Butler was led by redshirt senior Anna Logan who registered 37 kills along with 27 digs and seven block assists. A year ago, the Bulldogs finished with a 9-21 overall record, including a 6-12 Big East standing. Against MAC opponents, Butler beat Kent State, sweeping in three sets, while coming up short in a five set match against Buffalo, both of which were part of early season tournament play.Â
Scouting the 49ers
Charlotte kicked off their 2019 campaign by hosting the Charlotte Invitational, featuring Gardner-Webb, Kent State and Eastern Kentucky. The 49ers came out of the tournament with a 3-0 record before facing Duke on Tuesday, falling 3-0 to move their season mark to 3-1. Statistically, Charlotte was led by Sydney Rowan who paced the team with 49 kills, including six service aces, while also adding 45 digs and eight blocks. During the 2018 season, the 49ers finished with a 16-15 record, including going 6-8 in their conference. Charlotte didn't face any MAC teams last year, but already went up against Kent State this year, claiming a 3-1 victory.Â
Scouting the Vikings
Cleveland State opened their season at the Panther Challenge, taking on South Carolina, Cincinnati and host Pittsburgh. The Vikings came away with an 0-3 record, being swept by both No. 12 Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. Senior Trinniti Hall led Cleveland State in the kills department, adding 12 digs and 11 total blocks to her line a well. In the 2018 season, the Vikings finished 17-12, also going 11-5 within their conference. Over the course of the season, Cleveland State faced three MAC opponents, being Eastern Michigan, Kent State and BGSU, losing to all three. The Falcons topped the Vikings 3-2 in their match last season, facing off in the CSU Invitational.
