UP NEXT FOR THE FALCONS...
• The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team concludes a brief two-game homestand on Saturday (Jan. 11). Head coach Robyn Fralick and the Falcons will face the University of Akron in a 2:00 p.m. start at the Stroh Center.
THE OPENING TIP: NUMBER FOUR IS NUMBER ONE
• BGSU junior Madisen Parker continues to lead the entire nation in three-point field-goal percentage. After making five shots from long distance in Wednesday night's (Jan. 8) Ball State game, Parker has now hit 49 triples in 99 tries this season, for a 49.5 percent success rate.
THE STARTING FIVE (FIVE SOMEWHAT FASCINATING FALCON FACTS)
• The Falcons are coming off of a narrow loss, as BG fell to Ball State in overtime on Wednesday night. BGSU has now played five OT contests vs. the Cardinals – the Falcons' highest total of any opponent – and Wednesday marked BSU's first-ever overtime victory over the Orange and Brown.
• The loss dropped BGSU to 0-2 in MAC play, but the Falcons are just a game out of first place in the East Division in the season's early stages. No MAC East team is unbeaten, as three (Buffalo, Miami and Ohio) sport 1-1 records and the other three are 0-2 in league games.
• Junior Madisen Parker scored 23 points vs. Ball State. Parker now has a total of 68 points (22.7 ppg) in three games vs. teams from her home state of Indiana this year.
• Sophomore Kadie Hempfling had a game-high 16 rebounds vs. the Cardinals, a season-high total for a BG player. It fell just one shy of her career best, a 17-board performance in last season's win over Marshall.
• As a team, BGSU has outrebounded the opponent seven times this year. The Falcons have had a rebounding advantage of at least seven in each of those games, including five contests with at least 10 more boards than the opponent.
A QUICK LOOK AT THE ZIPS
• Akron is 7-6 on the season, and the Zips are off to an 0-2 start to MAC play, with five-point home losses against both Central Michigan and Western Michigan.
• UA is 3-4 at home, 2-2 on the road and 2-0 at neutral sites.
• Haliegh Reinoehl and Jordyn Dawson pace the scoring attack with 13.2 and 12.9 points per game, respectively. They also rank 1-2 in rebounding, as Reinoehl has 7.6 boards per contest and Dawson 6.6.
• Head coach Melissa Jackson returned eight letterwinners, including four starters, from last year's team. The 2018-19 Zips finished with records of 16-15 overall and 7-11 in the MAC.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Akron, 55-9, in the all-time series, but UA won both of last year's meetings, including a 74-71 thriller in Akron and an 83-73 outcome at the Stroh. Prior to last season, BGSU had won four-straight games vs. the Zips. The Falcons won the first 26 series matchups, saw Akron take two of the next five games, then won 19 more in a row before a UA win in January of 2013. BGSU is 29-3 in home games, 24-6 in road contests and 2-0 in neutral-site meetings vs. the Zips over the years.
DOWN THE ROAD
• Following the Akron matchup, the Falcons will hit the road for the next two games, beginning with a trip to Western New York for a Wednesday (Jan. 15) matchup with Buffalo. That contest is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
• Then, the Orange and Brown will make a short trip north, facing Toledo in the Battle of I-75 on Saturday, Jan. 18. BG meets UT at 2:00 p.m. at Savage Arena.
