Plowden, Butler Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Daeqwon Plowden and track and field student-athlete Kaila Butler.

Kaila Butler, a redshirt junior from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, won the weight throw in the track and field team's dual meet against Toledo, leading the team to a 79-57 victory over the Rockets in the Battle of I-75. Butler's throw was the second-best of her career and would rank among the top 20 in the nation. BGSU won 9-of-13 events to dominate their rivals in the meet Friday at Perry Field House.

Daeqwon Plowden, a junior from Philadelphia, Pa., led Bowling Green to a second-consecutive 2-0 week, as the Falcons earned wins over Western Michigan (Jan. 14) and Northern Illinois (Jan. 18). Plowden shot 60.0 percent (12-of-20) from the floor and 55.5 percent (5-of-9) from downtown, averaging 17.0 points and 8.5 rebounds. Plowden began the week with 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting in a road win at Western Michigan. The junior had six rebounds in the contest, as well, and went 2-for-3 from deep. Plowden then logged his sixth double-double of the season in a win over Northern Illinois, as he finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds. In the victory over the Huskies, Plowden connected on 3-of-6 attempts from three-point range.
