Flashes escape the Stroh with a 96-86, double-OT win
Caterrion Thompson exploded for a career-high 32 points and tied a school record, but Kent State University was able to escape the Stroh Center with a 96-86 double-overtime victory over the Bowling Green women's basketball team Saturday afternoon (Feb. 29).
On Senior Day, Thompson – a fourth-year Falcon – matched the BGSU single-game record by making eight three-point field goals. Thompson was 8-for-10 from the arc and pulled down nine rebounds on the afternoon.
Junior Angela Perry scored 24 points and had a game-high five blocked shots, while sophomore Kadie Hempfling had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, adding a team-high six assists.
For the Golden Flashes, Katie Shumate had 27 points to pace five players in double figures. Megan Carter scored 21, Asiah Dingle and Lindsey Thall 15 apiece and Hannah Young 12.
While that quintet hit double digits for the visitors, it was Nila Blackford's buzzer-beating layup that sent the game to a second overtime. It was the only shot Blackford made in the contest.
The Falcons had a slightly better field-goal percentage on the day, and BG shot better than 53 percent from three-point range to KSU's 46% rate. The Falcons held a 49-44 rebounding advantage as well.
But, the Flashes made three more long-range shots and five more free throws than the hosts, and the visitors had a 25-11 lead in points off turnovers. Eleven of those points off turnovers came in the two overtime periods.

After Shumate's jumper with 2:01 to go, neither team scored in the remainder of the half.

• BG got a stop, and Hempfling was fouled with 19 seconds remaining, but missed both free throws.
