Turner, East Named Jet's Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Jet's Pizza Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Justin Turner and gymnast Jovannah East.

Male Athlete of the Week

Justin Turner, a redshirt junior from Detroit, Mich., led Bowling Green to its fourth consecutive 2-0 week, as the Falcons posted wins over Ball State (Jan. 28) and Buffalo (Jan. 31). Turner averaged 21.5 points and 4.5 rebounds, scoring 20-plus points in both contests. The redshirt junior shot 46.2 percent (18-of-39) from the floor for the week. In BGSU's win over Ball State, Turner scored all 20 of his points in the second half, including 16 points inside the final six minutes. In Bowling Green's first win at Buffalo in nine years, the native of Detroit registered 23 points and three rebounds. Turner went 11-for-21 from the field, coming just one field goal shy of tying his career high.

Female Athlete of the Week

Jovannah East, a senior from Zion, Ill., won the floor, vault and all-around competition Sunday in the team's gymnastics meet at Western Michigan. East posted a 39.225 in the all-around, her second-best score of the year to win the event easily. She also recorded a season-best 9.900 on floor and a 9.875 on vault. She scored 9.775 on beam and 9.675 on bars to round out her scoring in the meet.
