Each week, the BGSU Strategic Communications Department breaks down the week ahead in athletics and recaps the week gone by. Listed below are all games over the course of the next seven days with links and information for fans. Following that info are recaps, scores and links from games over the past week.
THE WEEK AHEAD
MEN'S BASKETBALL (9-2, 5-0 MAC)

For just the third time in program history, Bowling Green is off to a 5-0 start in Mid-American Conference play. Two of those seasons – 2018-19 and 2020-21 – have taken place during the Michael Huger Era. The Falcons won both game of a home-and-home last week with Central Michigan, defeating the Chippewas by 20-plus points in both contests. The Falcons are currently tied with Toledo atop the league standings. BGSU continues its conference schedule this week by hosting Ball State on Jan. 12 before heading to Buffalo for a nationally-televised game on CBS Sports Network on Jan. 15. Fifth-year senior Justin Turner is leading the Falcons in scoring (20.9 ppg) and assists (5.4 apg), while fellow senior Daeqwon Plowden is averaging a team-high 8.9 rebounds. Senior Trey Diggs is one of the best three-pointer shooters in the nation in 2020-21, launching the three-ball at a 44.4 percent (28-of-63) clip.

The women's basketball Falcons, coming off of a loss for the first time in nearly a month, venture back out on the road for a pair of games this week. BGSU takes on Buffalo on Wednesday evening in Western New York, and the Falcons then meet Toledo in the Glass City on Saturday afternoon. The Falcons have won the last two road games by a combined 59 points, including Wednesday's 73-48 victory at Western Michigan, but Northern Illinois snapped BGSU's four-game winning streak with a 78-71 decision at the Stroh on Saturday. Freshman Lexi Fleming had 26 points to tie her career best, and now has scored in double digits in all 10 of her games as a Falcon. Junior Kadie Hempfling scored 16 points in each of last week's two games.
GYMNASTICS (0-0, 0-0 MAC)

Bowling Green will open the 2021 season Sunday at MAC rival Kent State beginning at 3:00 pm. The Falcons went 10-12 a year ago, an eight-win improvement over the previous season. The Falcons return 10 members of the 2020 squad and have added seven new gymnasts to the roster. The Falcons, though, must replace a three-woman senior class that included one of the great gymnasts in program history in Jovannah East.Â

The Falcons will begin the week with an exhibition against the USA Hockey U-18 team. Originally scheduled in November, the game was postponed and rescheduled for week. That game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start in Plymouth, Mich. From there the Falcons will transition back to the Slater Family Ice Arena for a two-game non-conference series against Northern Michigan on Jan. 15 and 16 with both games set for 7:07 p.m. puck drops and will be available to stream on FloHockey. Coming off of a weekend split against Bemidji State, the Orange and Brown are currently atop the WCHA standings with nine points in conference. However, the Falcons will have non-conference series both this weekend and next.Â

The Bowling Green State University indoor track & field season kicks off Saturday at 2:00 pm in the first of three home meets. There is no public attendance for this meet. The Falcons are coming off of a fifth place finish at the MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships a year ago. With 68 team points, it was the program's highest total since winning the MAC title in 1999. This meet will feature four MAC programs, with BGSU, Northern Illinois, Ball State and Miami.Â
