KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker on Wednesday (Jan. 27) evening at Kent State University by a score of 96-91. The Mid-American Conference contest, which was added to BGSU's schedule on Monday afternoon, was played inside of KSU's M.A.C. Center. The Falcons drop to 10-6 (6-4 MAC) with the loss.
In a game that was rarely more than a two-possession affair, the Golden Flashes were able to close the contest on a 12-8 run after the Falcons pulled within a single point with 3:13 left in regulation. KSU, which nailed long-range jumpers throughout the ballgame, was led by a career night from senior Danny Pippen, who finished with 34 points.
Freshman Josiah Fulcher scored a career-high 23 points off the bench to lead the Orange and Brown. Fifth-year senior Justin Turner added 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Turner will head into Saturday's game against Toledo needing just 16 points to become Bowling Green's all-time leading scorer.
Senior Daeqwon Plowden registered 19 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Trey Diggs and junior center Jacob Washington chipped in with eight points and seven points, respectively. The Falcons shot 46.1 percent (35-of-76) from the floor and had 10 assists compared to eight turnovers. KSU made two more free throws (17) than the Falcons attempted and went 13-for-28 (46.4 percent) from downtown.
COACH HUGER QUOTE
"We played extremely hard. We competed from start to finish. We gave ourselves a chance to win the game. We just didn't get those stops at the end that we needed in order to get over the hump. Pippen played great; he was really good. He won the game for those guys. Hats off to those guys, but my guys did a really good job of fighting."
