Against the Field
The Falcons will join the 11 other Mid-American Conference schools in the meet. Akron, Ball State, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan only have women's teams, leaving the men's field smaller with eight teams competing. All 12 schools will be represented in the women's race. The Falcons are familiar with most of the MAC field this year after competing against members of every team except Ohio, and the women raced against eight of the 11 other schools over the course of the 2021 season. The Falcons faced Toledo the most, racing the Rockets three times already this season in the Mel Brodt Collegiate Invite (Sept. 3), Spartan Invitational (Sept. 17) and Falcon Invitational (Oct. 16).
Notable Quotes
"We are excited to get the opportunity to compete in the MAC Championships this weekend," men's head coach Kelly Leatherman said. "Each meet this season we have made steps towards accomplishing our goals. This is our chance to show the conference how hard we've been working."
On the team's goals for the meet, Leatherman said, "Our goal is to have our best meet to date, competing well against the field and having a strong pack mentality. Working together and rolling along is how we compete best, and we are ready for whatever it takes to better our individual and team finishes from the year before."
"This championship presents us with an opportunity we feel ready to take advantage of," said women's head coach Lou Snelling.
