Burke’s Golden Goal Lifts Bowling Green Past RPI in Overtime, 3-2

TROY, N.Y. – Nathan Burke's second goal of the night lifted the Bowling Green Falcons (1-0-1) ice hockey team past the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) Engineers (0-1-1) in overtime on Saturday night, 3-2, inside Houston Field House.
Playing three-on-three hockey in overtime for the second-straight game against the Engineers, RPI managed just one shot, while BGSU got two shots off, including the game-winning score by Burke 1:40 into the extra frame. Eric Parker was credited with the assist on the game-winning goal.
Scoring Plays
• BGSU started the scoring early, just 5:33 into the game when Ethan Scardina took the puck in transition and ripped it top shelf for his first career goal. Gabriel Chicoine and Eric Parker earned the assists.
• RPI knotted the game, 1-1, with a power-play goal with 9:37 left in the first period when Shane Sellar found nylon. Simon Kjellberg and TJ Walsh earned assists.
• Playing 4-on-4, BGSU won a faceoff on the nearside of RPI's goal. Burke's move put him one-on-one with the cage and he pushed it through to give BGSU a 2-1 lead with 63 seconds left in the second period. Alex Barber and Austen Swankler were credited with assists.
• RPI tied the game with 13:15 left in the third period when Ryan Mahshie scored unassisted.
• In the overtime period, Burke took the puck the length of the rink after Parker's outlet pass and walked it in with 3:20 left in OT to secure the first win for the Falcons this season.

On Friday, Oct. 22, the Falcons travel to Goggin Ice Center for a 7:05 p.m. matchup with the Redhawks. Bowling Green returns to Slater Family Ice Arena for the 2021 home opener on Saturday, Oct. 23. The puck drops against Miami at 7:07 p.m.
