Falcons Set For Steel City Showdown With Duquesne Wednesday
November 30, 2021 | Men's Basketball
PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will take to the road for their next game, being in Pittsburgh, Pa. at Duquesne for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off on Wednesday (Dec. 1). The game will mark the lone road game in December for the Falcons before four home games during the month. The contest between the Falcons and Dukes will be available to stream through ESPN+. Fans can also tune in to the action via radio on WFRO Eagle 99. Live stats will be provided by goduquesne.com with a link available at bgsufalcons.com with live updates available on Twitter (@BGSUMHoops).Â
The meeting between the Falcons and Dukes will be the 27th all-time and the first since Dec. 28, 2011. Of the 27 games, this will be the 16th to be played in December. Between the 1947-48 season and the 1962-63 campaign the two teams faced 17 times but have played just 10 times over the last 58 seasons. Duquesne has won the last four meetings with the last BGSU victory being on Dec. 5, 2001 by a score of 64-62 in Pittsburgh.Â
A Bowling Green Win Would …Â
Looking At DuquesneÂ
The Dukes enter the contest against the Falcons on a bit of a hot streak. Duquesne went to overtime with Colorado on Nov. 20, falling short, but that game sparked two wins that followed. The Dukes first topped Bradley on Nov. 22, 78-70, before beating American 88-79 on Nov. 28 for a two-game win streak after previously being on a four-game losing streak. Statistically, the Dukes have four players averaging between 12.1 and 12.9 points per game while Leon Ayers III is averaging 2.9 blocks per game with 20 so far this season.
Plowden's Perennial Block PartyÂ
Daeqwon Plowden has logged at least one block in every single game through the Falcons first seven games this season. Plowden began the season with one block in each of the first three games. However, he tallied three against Norfolk State before a pair in each game at the Fort Myers Tip-Off and another trio against Chicago State, totaling 10 over the last four games. The surge has brought Plowden's blocks per game average to 1.8, leading the Mid-American Conference and among the Top 100 in the nation (57).Â
The Most Wonderful Time Of The YearÂ
The Falcons are ready to start the month of December on the 2021-22 schedule. This year Bowling Green will play a total of five games in December four of which will come at home in the Stroh Center. During the Coach Huger Era, now in its seventh season, the Orange and Brown have performed the best during the month of December. When playing during the calendar's 12th month, Huger's Falcons are 21-12 for a .636 win percentage, the best winning percentage of any month during Huger's tenure.Â
