Falcons Rally In Third Period To Beat Bulldogs

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons hockey team (8-5-3, 6-5-1-0) earned a series split with Ferris State (6-14-0, 4-8-0) after their 2-1 victory on Saturday (Dec. 11) night. Following a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs scored in the second to take a 1-0 advantage into the final frame. Nathan Burke and Austen Swankler scored in the third period, giving the Falcons a comeback victory in Slater Family Ice Arena.

"We were close and we were always chasing it, but what really got us going was Burke's goal. Because then the crowd's into it, now it's 1-1 and you can feel a little bit of relief on the bench and guys are starting to go. Then a big play by Swankler for the eventual winner."

Scoring Plays
- The Bulldogs opened the scoring in the second period with a goal by Nick Nardecchia. Nardecchia cleaned up a rebound from a Justin Michaelian shot for the lone score of the first two periods. Justin Michaelian and Brendan Michaelian earned the assists.
- Bowling Green evened the score near the halfway point of the third period, with Nathan Burke lighting the lamp for the ninth time this season. Austen Swankler won a faceoff at the right circle and Burke gained possession of the puck in front of the net. Burke fired home the goal, with Swankler earning the assist.
- Swankler gave the Falcons the lead with just under four minutes remaining. Brayden Krieger poked a loose puck back into the BGSU attack zone, giving Swankler an open shot from the left side. He found the back of the net, securing a 2-1 victory for the Orange and Brown. Krieger was credited with the lone assist.

Falcon Facts
- Austen Swankler recorded a multi-point game for the second consecutive night, giving him five this season. He has tallied seven goals and 11 assists for a team-high 18 points.
- Swankler scored the game-winning goal, the second of his career.
- Nathan Burke's goal was his ninth of the year, the highest total on the team. Tonight also marked the 100th game of his collegiate career.
- Christian Stoever spent the entire game in net, logging a career-best 41 saves.
