Louisville Transfer Eligible to Play in Spring of 2022
Bowling Green State University softball coach Sarah Willis has announced the addition of another NCAA Division-I transfer to the program. Lexi Carver will join the Falcon family in time for the spring semester, and will be eligible to play for the Orange and Brown in the spring of 2022.
"We are excited for Lexi to join the program in the 2022 spring semester," said Willis. "Lexi is a talented ballplayer that we can plug right into the Falcon lineup. She provides great versatility as a defensive player and has a tremendous mindset as a hitter. We are eager for her arrival to the BGSU campus and to begin the training process in January 2022."
Carver, a native of Spencer, Ind., comes to BGSU after two-plus years at the University of Louisville. The catcher saw action in five games as a freshman in the spring of 2020, with a pair of at-bats and a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
Carver saw action behind the plate in a pair of games against Alabama, as well as contests vs. Wichita State, Michigan and UIC.
Both at-bats came in the second Bama matchup, along with three of her six total chances in the field. Carver and the Cardinals had a 10-13 record in 2020.
She missed the entire 2021 season due to injury, but was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll. Carver earned that honor in both seasons with the Cards, and also was named an Easton/NFCA Scholar Athlete.
A graduate of Owen Valley High School, Carver was a three-time All-Indiana selection, and also earned all-conference (Western Indiana Conference) honors three times. She led the league in hitting three times, and paced the conference in stolen bases twice.
She was named an Extra Inning Softball First-Team High School All-American as a junior when she hit .653 and did not commit an error all season. Carver was a Second-Team All-American in 2019 and was also listed in Extra Innings Softball's Extra Elite 100 and Flo Softball's Hot 100 Players that season.
Carver was one of five finalists for Indiana Miss Softball award in 2019. She began her career by helping the Patriots reach the Indiana Class 3A Softball Final Four in 2016, her freshman season. She played travel ball for the Beverly Bandits.
Carver joins a group of 2022 BGSU softball newcomers that includes three other Division-I transfers in Ally Bezjak (Saint Francis Univ.), Bre Cooper (USC Upstate) and Kiara Hurley (North Carolina Central Univ.), along with four true freshman – Wynnie Reid, Bailey Sample, Kerrigan Williams and Madi Young.
BGSU ended the 2021 season with an overall record of 27-27, and the Falcons went 19-20 in MAC action. BG, picked to finish eighth in the MAC in the preseason coaches' poll, ended the season in fifth place in the 11-team league. BGSU was one of two conference teams to finish as many as three places higher than predicted.
The Falcons finished with the program's highest winning percentage in MAC play since 2012, and BGSU's overall total of 27 wins was the highest since the 2013 campaign.
A total of 14 of the 23 players on the 2021 roster were true freshmen or redshirt freshmen.
