BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program will begin play within the Mid-American Conference on Wednesday (Dec. 29) by hosting Akron in the final of four straight home games during the month of December for the Falcons. Set for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off, the game between the Falcons and Zips will be available to stream on ESPN3. Fans can also tune in to the action via radio on WFRO Eagle 99. Live stats will be provided by bgsufalcons.com with live updates available on Twitter (@BGSUMHoops).Â
The meeting between the Falcons and Zips will be the first of two this season between the teams and the 71st all-time. The series has been back-and-forth of late with the last back-to-back wins for either team being at the end of the 2018-19 season and the beginning of the 2019-20 campaign. Both teams will enter the contest riding five-game winning streaks to close their respective non-conference schedules heading into MAC competition.Â
The last time out the Falcons totaled 100+ points for the second consecutive game, an achievement last met during the 1974-75 season. In the 129-50 win over Carlow, BGSU broke the program record for assists in a game with 32 while tying the program record for three-pointers made in a single game with 17.Â

Analyzing Akron
The Akron Zips will enter MAC play on a similar streak as the Falcons with both teams riding five-game winning streaks and being undefeated in the month of December. The Zips closed out their non-conference schedule with a 7-3 standing but have been off since Dec. 15 due to their final non-conference game being postponed, originally set for Dec. 20 against Radford. On the stat sheet, Akron has four players averaging at least 10 points per game, including sophomore forward Enrique Freeman who is averaging a double-double with 12.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Freeman's 11.3 rebounds per game are currently fifth in the nation.
Rebounding Among The BestÂ
The Falcons are one of the best rebounding teams in the nation going into conference play. BGSU ranks second in the country for total rebounds per game, averaging 44.2 rebounds per game, second to only Kentucky. That success has come in large part to success on the offensive boards. The Orange and Brown are currently averaging 14.6 offensive rebounds per game, which is sixth in the nation behind only TCU, Kentucky, Grand Canyon, College of Charleston and UTSA. As for defensive rebounds per game, the Falcons are 14th in the nation with a mark of 29.6 per game through the first 11 games of the season.
Keeping It 100… AgainÂ
For the second consecutive game, Bowling Green tallied 100 points or more. After beating Robert Morris 100-74, the Falcons followed up with a 129-50 victory over Carlow. This marks the first time since the 1974-75 season that BGSU has had 100+ points in back-to-back games. BGSU also reached 100 points earlier this season in a 101-60 final over Ohio Wesleyan. This is the first time since the 1996-97 season that BGSU has surpassed 100 points at least three in a single season.
