Falcons picked to finish eighth
The Bowling Green State University softball team has been picked to finish eighth in the Mid-American Conference in 2021, according to the league's preseason poll. The poll, the result of voting by the MAC's 11 head coaches, was released on Monday afternoon (Feb. 15) by the conference office.
Kent State was picked to win the MAC regular-season title, while Miami was tabbed to finish second. After 21 years of multiple-division competition, the MAC eliminated divisions for the sport of softball prior to the 2019 season.
Ball State was third in the poll, followed by Ohio, Central Michigan, Northern Illinois, Toledo, BGSU, Western Michigan, Buffalo and Akron.
KSU received seven votes to win the regular-season crown, while Miami garnered two votes and BSU one.
BGSU head coach Sarah Willis and her staff welcome back 14Â letterwinners, including all but one starter, from a year ago.
The Falcons began the 2021 season over the weekend, winning three of four games against Cleveland State (Feb. 12-13). BGÂ and CSU split a Friday doubleheader before the Orange and Brown swept Saturday's twinbill.
BGSUÂ heads to Rock Hill, S.C., for five games in the Winthrop Kickoff Tournament this weekend (Feb. 19-21). The Falcons' home opener, which is also the MAC opener, is scheduled for Friday, March 19, vs. CMU.
