FULL GAME NOTES
Falcons Continue Historic StartÂ
Bowling Green was able to come away with another pair of sweeps last week with two 3-0 wins over Ball State to improve to 8-0 on the season. The 8-0 start to MAC play ties the same start as the 2012 season that saw the Falcons advance to the NCAA Tournament. The Orange and Brown will now be eyeing the 2006 campaign that began 10-0 in conference play and was part of a program-record 17-match win streak. The Falcons will now turn their attention to the Ohio Bobcats, a team they last faced, and swept, in November of 2019.Â
MAC East MatchupÂ
The Ohio Bobcats will be the second MAC East opponent of the season for the Falcons, previously facing Miami. OU will enter the series holding a 4-2 record and being third in the MAC East. The Bobcats most recently swept Buffalo in two 3-0 finals after splitting with Akron and Central Michigan earlier this season. Prior to the start of the season, Ohio also had three players named to the Preseason East All-MAC Team, being Vera Giacomazzi, Tia Jimerson and Maggie Nedoma. The Bobcats were also projected for a third place MAC East finish.Â
For The First Time Since … Â
For the first time since the 2012 season Bowling Green has started MAC play with an 8-0 record, now chasing the 10-0 start from the 2006 campaign. Additionally, the 8-0 start is the best to begin the season since the 2011 season. In that campaign the Orange and Brown jumped out to a record-setting 12-0 start with the streak ending with the first MAC match of the season. Only two teams have started the season better than the Falcons. No. 2 Texas is currently 14-0 while No. 3 Kentucky is 12-0. Three other teams are 8-0 as well, being No. 5 Minnesota, No. 7 Utah and No. 1 Wisconsin.
Over The Last 10 Years … Â
Over the last 10 years, BGSU Athletics has witnessed just two teams have an equivalent or better start to the season than this edition of the volleyball program. At 8-0, this squad matched the start of the 2014-15 swim and dive team and only trail the 2011 volleyball team that began 12-0. As for conference play, the 8-0 start matches the 2018 women's soccer team as well as the 2012 edition of the volleyball team. Over the last 10 years, only the 2011-12 women's basketball team has a better conference start at 10-0.Â
Top 10 In The NationÂ
Through the first eight matches of the season, Hanna Laube has logged a total of 326 assists for the Falcons over 28 sets played, averaging 11.64 assists per set. That mark is currently tied for tenth in the nation and is third in the MAC. Kent State's Alex Haffner leads the nation with 12.52 assists per set and Eastern Michigan's Jayden Otto is ninth with 11.67, however both have played at least seven sets fewer than Laube. If Laube can maintain the 11.64 assists per set, she would clock in at sixth all-time in program history and the first to crack the top 10 on the list since 2006.Â
Meyer DeliveringÂ
Laube isn't the only Bowling Green Falcon working her way into the nation's top stat leaders. Katelyn Meyer has been able to place her name in the top 35 in the nation for both attacks per set and kills per set. Meyer is currently averaging 11.57 attacks per set, a stat that is 31st in the nation. She is also averaging 4.36 kills per set which comes in at 35th in the country.Â
