Falcons Claim Doubles Point, Fall Short Against Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis program took on Xavier on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 20). The Falcons began the day by taking the doubles point, but Xavier battled back in singles, concluding in a 5-2 final score. Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Yulia Kapitanova clinched the doubles point after Ayumi Saski and Ioanna Tsadari won as well. As for singles, the point came from freshman Selina Karg in three sets. The Falcons will move to 1-2 on the young season and will next face Valparaiso tomorrow (Feb. 21).

Making Of The Match
- Beginning in doubles play, Ayumi Sasaki and Ioanna Tsadari were able to take the first step towards a point, taking a 6-2 win at No. 2 Doubles.
- The Falcons then saw Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Yulia Kapitanova pick up a win at No. 1 Doubles in a 7-5 final to give the Orange and Brown the early 1-0 lead.
- Moving to singles play, Bowling Green picked up their second point of the match with freshman Selina Karg taking No. 6 Singles. After falling behind in the first set, Karg battled back to take the second and third sets for the wins.
Falcon Stat Facts
- With the doubles win, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash moved up the all-time list for combined wins with her 133 career wins, placing her in sole possession of 15th all-time. Next on the list will be Jenny Schwartz who is 14th with 139 career wins.
- Freshman Selina Karg is now 2-0 in her first collegiate singles matches, both being wins at No. 6 Singles.
