FULL GAME NOTES
Falcons Remain UndefeatedÂ
Bowling Green came away with another win last week, this time topping MAC East opponent Ohio in a 3-1 final. The match served as the first four-set match of the season for the Falcons as they remained undefeated through the first nine matches of the season. The impressive start not only marks one of the best in program history for the Bowling Green volleyball team, but one of the best starts in BGSU Athletics over the last decade. Now, the Falcons will turn their attention to the Kent State Golden Flashes for two matches.
Facing the FlashesÂ
The Kent State Golden Flashes will enter the two matches against the Falcons on shortened rest after having their last set of matches moved to a Saturday-Sunday series. Having just three days between series, Kent State will look to have a quick turnaround. The Flashes were the last remaining undefeated team outside of BGSU in the MAC this season, jumping out to a 6-0 start. However, a loss to Eastern Michigan ended that run, leaving the Falcons as the only remaining undefeated team in the MAC. The loss to Eastern Michigan also went five sets.
Â
For The First Time Since …Â
For the first time since the 2006 season the Falcons have started MAC play with at least a 9-0 record, having a 10-0 start during that campaign. Beyond that, only the 13-0 MAC start from the 1992 season would be better, although those MAC matches were broken up by non-conference losses. The 9-0 start is also the best to begin a season since the 2011 season. In that campaign the Orange and Brown jumped out to a record-setting 12-0 start with the streak ending with the first MAC match of the season. The Falcons also started 10-0 in 1990, being the only other double-digit win streak to begin a season in program history.
Â
Over The Last 10 Years …Â
Over the last 10 years, BGSU Athletics has witnessed just one team have an equivalent or better start to the season than this edition of the volleyball program. At 9-0, this squad only trails the 2011 volleyball team that began 12-0. As for conference play, the 9-0 start is the second best over the last 10 years of BGSU Athletics with only the 2011-12 women's basketball team having a better conference start at 10-0.
Â
Laube Landing Among Nation's BestÂ
Through the first nine matches of the season Hanna Laube has been able to work her way into the Top 10 in the nation statistically for assists per set. So far, Laube is averaging 11.59 assists per set, placing her ninth in the nation for the stat. If that mark can hold, Laube would post the sixth best single season for assists per set in program history and the best since the 2006 season.
Â
Elite CompanyÂ
The Falcons are one of just five teams in the nation to reach 9-0. They are joined by No. 2 Texas (14-0), No. 3 Kentucky (12-0), No. 1 Wisconsin (10-0) and No. 19 Ohio State (9-0) with BGSU receiving votes. Â
