CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball team was defeated by the University of Akron in the MAC Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday (March 11) by a score of 74-67. BGSU ends the 2020-21 season with an overall record of 14-11 (10-8 MAC).
The Falcons overcame a 12-point deficit, taking multiple late leads in the second half, but the Zips closed the game on a 15-6 run after BGSU claimed a 61-59 lead. Akron advances to play two-seeded Buffalo in the semifinals.
Fifth-year senior Justin Turner moved into 10th on the MAC's all-time scoring list on the evening, surpassing Ohio legend D.J. Cooper (2009-13 | 2,075). Bowling Green's all-time leading scorer poured in 2,077 points in 119 games in the Orange and Brown.
Fellow senior Daeqwon Plowden nearly willed the Falcons to a win, tying a career-high with 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting. A staple over the last four years, Plowden has appeared in all 122 games since becoming a Falcon in 2017. Plowden ranks 10th in school history in both career rebounds (719) and blocked shots (89). The native of Philadelphia ranks 38th on BGSU's all-time scoring list with 1,124 points.
Senior Trey Diggs knocked home his 106th triple in a Bowling Green uniform. The native of Niceville, Florida contributed with nine points and four rebounds. Sophomore wing Chandler Turner had a career night, equaling a career high with 12 points while setting a career high with eight rebounds.
