Western Michigan Tops Falcons In Close Contest

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University tennis program faced off against Western Michigan on Sunday for the team's second MAC match of the season, coming up on the short end of a 4-3 final. The three points for the Falcons all came in singles play, seeing Ayumi Sasaki, Selina Karg and Marta Bettinelli collect wins. The results move the Falcons to 1-1 in MAC play while being 5-3 overall on the season. The Falcons will be back on the court this coming weekend on Friday (March 19) to host Buffalo before traveling north for the Battle of I-75 on Sunday (March 21).

Making Of The Match
- Beginning in doubles play, the duo of Ayumi Sasaki and Ioanna Tsadari were able to register a win with a 6-2 final, but in the end Western Michigan came away with the doules point to begin the match.
- Moving to singles, the Falcons saw Sasaki claim another win on the day, this time at No. 4 singles with 6-3 scores in the first and second set to register a point for Bowling Green.
- Freshman Selina Karg was able to contribute to the effort as well at No. 5 singles that saw scores of 6-4 and 6-3 to add another point to the BGSU total.
- Closing out the day, Marta Bettinelli went three sets en route to a singles win. The first set needed extra points to settle the winner with Bettinelli coming out on top. After coming up short in the second, Bettinelli played to a 10-4 final in the third set for the win.
Falcon Stat Facts
- Picking up a singles win, Ayumi Sasaki moved up the all-time career singles list, now tied with Katie Grubb for 25th all-time with 59 career singles wins. Sasaki also tallied a doubles win to move her career doubles win total to 52, giving her sole possession of 29th all-time. The pair of wins also moved Sasaki up the combined wins list, now with 111 combined wins, placing her at 27th all-time.
- Continuing the strong start to her collegiate career, freshman Selina Karg added another singles win to move to 7-0 on the season for the Falcons, being 2-0 at No. 4 and No. 6 singles and 3-0 at No. 5 singles.

- The Orange and Brown will be back at home on Friday, March 19 for the team's first MAC match at home, hosting Buffalo for a 1 p.m. start.
