Greensboro, N.C. – Junior swimmer Daisy Platts made her debut at the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving National Championships with a record-breaking performance in the 100 backstroke Friday. At the Greensboro Aquatic Center, Platts broke the school record and won her heat, finishing 21st overall.
Seeded No. 37 entering the meet, Platts swam the 100 backstroke in 52.65 seconds, bettering her own school record mark of 52.87 seconds that she set to win the MAC Championship in 2020. Swimming out of the second lane, she won her heat to finish 16 spots ahead of her entrance seed in 21st place.
Platts will return to the pool Saturday to compete in the 200 backstroke prelims. She is also the school-record holder in that event, posting a time of 1:54.35 earlier this year at Eastern Michigan's Last Chance meet.
