MUNCIE, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University tennis program came up just shy against Ball State on Friday (March 26) in the 4-3 final score. The Falcons picked up three singles points, but the doubles point proved pivotal in the final score. With the loss, Bowling Green moves to 7-4 on the season while being 3-2 in MAC play. The Orange and Brown will return to the courts on Sunday (March 28) to host Miami with a 1 p.m. start.

Making Of The Match

The Falcons saw three singles wins on the day. At No. 1 singles, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash tallied a win for Bowling Green. Tavpash was able to post scores of 6-4 and 6-1 to capture the point.
The Falcons also saw a singles win by Ayumi Sasaki at No. 3 singles. Sasaki needed extra points in the first set to win at 7-5 before clinching the point with a 6-3 second set score.
The third singles point for the Falcons came at No. 5 singles from Selina Karg, seeing her go three sets. After winning the first set 6-4, Ball State came back with a 6-1 score in the second set to force a third. Needing extra points in the third set, Karg came away with a 7-5 score to add another point to the BGSU total.

Falcon Stat Facts

Picking up a singles win, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash moved up the all-time singles list as well as the all-time combined wins list. For the singles wins list, Tavpash is now tied with Patty Bank for 21st all-time with 63 career singles wins. As for combined, Tavpash is now up to 144 career wins, giving her sole possession of 10th all-time and moving past Cindy Mikolajewski.
Ayumi Sasaki also made moves on the all-time lists, moving up the singles career list. Now with 62 career singles wins, Sasaki moves past Polina Radeva for sole possession of 23rd all-time in program history.
After being listed in the Top 125 singles players in the nation, Selina Karg added another singles victory, now 9-1 through her first 10 singles matches.

Up Next

Bowling Green will be back on their home courts on Sunday (March 28) to host Miami. The match is set for 1 p.m. with the location being determined later by weather.
