FULL GAME NOTES
Falcons Advance Into Record Book
Bowling Green came away with their record-breaking 13th win to begin the season, although the season is past halfway over. With the 13-0 record, the Falcons will now continue through the schedule with the potential of recording the best start to a season in the history of BGSU Athletics, currently set at 15-0. The Falcons also have a chance to clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament this weekend if they can capture a sweep along with some help in other contests throughout the week on the conference schedule.Â
Entertaining The EaglesÂ
Eastern Michigan will enter the series against the Falcons on shortened rest, last playing on Monday (March 8) against Ohio. In that match, the Eagles came away with a 3-0 victory, bouncing back from a 3-0 loss to Toledo last Saturday. This season, Eastern Michigan has had just four three-set matches, being a loss to Western Michigan, the win over Ohio and one of each against Toledo. The Eagles have also had three five-set matches, being a win and a loss against Buffalo as well as a win over Kent State. The last five matches for Eastern Michigan have gone either three or five sets.Â
For The First Time Since … Â
For the first time since the 1992 season, and just the second time in program history, the Falcons have reached a 13-0 record to start the conference season. During the 1992 campaign, the Falcons won a record 13 straight games to begin MAC play, however, those wins were broken up by conference losses. The 13-0 start is also the third best to begin a season in the history of BGSU Athletics, trailing only the 14-0 start by the 1942-43 men's basketball team and the 15-0 start by the 1964 men's tennis team.Â
Entering New TerritoryÂ
For the fourth consecutive week, the Falcons have received votes in the AVCA Coaches Top 25 poll. This week, Bowling Green received what is believed to be a program-best 13 votes in the poll. Previously, the Falcons received eight votes last week and six each of the two weeks prior to that. This comes after the Orange and Brown advanced to 13-0, being one of three teams to reach the mark this season. The others are No. 2 Texas (17-0) and No. 3 Kentucky (14-0). If the Falcons can enter the Top 25, it is believed that it would be the first time in program history.Â
Closing In On 1,000 KillsÂ
Katelyn Meyer is nearing the millennium mark for kills over her career in the Orange and Brown, currently with 916 with the Falcons. So far this season Meyer has a team-high 190 kills with an average of 4.04 kills per set. As a freshman, Meyer landed 267 kills before nearly doubling that number as a sophomore with 459 during the 2019 campaign. Meyer has also watched her hitting percentage go up, currently registering a career-best .246 mark this year.Â
Closing In On 1,000 DigsÂ
While Meyer is coming close to 1,000 kills she isn't the only Falcon that is approaching a millennium mark. Julia Walz is nearing the milestone for digs as well with 970 career digs in the Orange and Brown. Walz tallied 677 a year ago and has already registered 253 this season in addition to her 40 as a freshman. Walz is also 31st in the nation while leading the Falcons with 5.16 digs per set. As a team, Bowling Green clocks in at 31st in the country for digs per set while averaging 17.63.Â
