The Next Chapter: Falcons Ready For Weber State, NCAA Tournament

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball program will head into the NCAA Tournament this week for the first time since the 2012 season. After winning both the MAC Regular Season and MAC Tournament Championships, the Falcons received the conference's automatic bid in the NCAAs, riding a 22-1 record. The Falcons are set to face Weber State in the first round of the tournament, scheduled for Wednesday (April 14) with a 7 p.m. start on ESPN3. The winner of the match will advance to face No. 1 Wisconsin in the second round on Thursday (April 15), also a 7 p.m. start on ESPN3.

The Story Continues
After concluding the regular season with the MAC Championship and then the MAC Tournament in the same manner, the Falcons will look to write the next chapter in their historical 2020-21 campaign. Bowling Green has reached record after record this season, including the best start to a season in BGSU Athletic Department history and the longest win streak in program history, both set at 18 consecutive victories. Now, they will turn their attention to tallying the second NCAA Tournament win in program history.

Waging War On The Wildcats
The Falcons first opponent in the NCAA Tournament will be the Weber State Wildcats, champions of the Big Sky Conference. The Wildcats will enter with an 18-1 record, including an eight-match win streak. The lone loss on the season for the Wildcats came against Northern Arizona back on March 7 in a 3-1 final. On the season, Weber State compiled seven 3-0 sweeps while beginning the season with a 10-match win streak. This will be just their second NCAA appearance in program history, last appearing in 1988.

For The First Time Since … Â
For the first time since the 2012 season the Falcons will return to the NCAA Tournament. After defeating Western Michigan in the MAC Championship, Bowling Green earned the automatic bid from the conference. In 2012, the Falcons defeated Yale in the first round of the tournament, being the program's first NCAA Tournament victory. From there, Bowling Green opposed No. 1 Penn State.

Only 30 players in the country have totaled 300 kills or more this season and two of them are Bowling Green Falcons. Both Katelyn Meyer and Petra Indrova hit the mark during the MAC Tournament. Meyer currently has 327 kills, which is tied for 16th in the nation and third in the MAC. As for Indrova, she has 312 for 26th in the nation and fifth in the MAC. Bowling Green is just one of three teams in the nation with multiple 300-kill players. The others are Texas State and Missouri State.

Kidwell Closing In On The All-Time Mark
Katie Kidwell is closing in on the all-time record for career block assists, currently in second place. Kidwell currently stands with 435 career block assists, needing nine more to pass Kendra Halm and become the program's all-time leader for the statistic. Kidwell also recently moved up the all-time list for career total blocks. Now with 499, Kidwell passed Tammy Schiller for fourth all-time and now trails Halm there as well, needing 17 total blocks to move into third all-time for the category.
