KETTERING, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team put together a strong week on its way to a runner-up finish at the Dayton Flyer Intercollegiate. The Falcons carded a season-best team score of 839 to finish in second place at the 12-team event. The University of Dayton hosted the 54-hole tournament on the north course at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio.
Bowling Green's 839 is the program's best 54-hole team score since winning the Tom Tontimonia Invitational in October of 2019.
The Falcons were led by a trio of competitors that all earned top-eight finishes. Nick Hofland was in contention all week, finishing solo third by shooting five-under par. Hofland's round-two 65 was Bowling Green's low round for the event.
Ian Mackenzie-Olson and Brandon Rattray each finished T-8, respectively. Mackenzie-Olson's round-three 68 today was BGSU's second-best round. Rattray, who was making his Bowling Green debut at the event, was very consistent throughout, posting rounds of 71-69-70.
Dylan Fitchet and Tom North nearly broke into the 60's, as well. The pair of Falcons each carded a season-low 70. Fitchet opened the tournament with a 70, while North's tournament was highlighted by a 70 in round two.
Bowling Green will head to the Rutherford Intercollegiate (State College, Pa.) from April 17-18 before the MAC Championships take place in Fort Wayne, Indiana across April 30 – May 1.
COACH POWERS QUOTE
"It was a very good showing for us. Huge to get three quality rounds from Brandon in his first college tournament. He hit some really timely shots and putts when we needed a boost, as well. Nick played really solid all week and I fully expected him to contend this week. We have been showing good progress top-to-bottom for the past several weeks, and are rounding into form at the right time."
