BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Bowling Green State University tennis program claimed a 4-3 victory on the road over Buffalo on Friday (April 16). The Falcons picked up the doubles point to begin the day and followed it up with three singles wins to capture the win for the day. The win pushes the Falcons to 10-6 on the season while being 6-4 in conference play. Bowling Green will next return home on Sunday (April 18) to host Western Michigan for a 3 p.m. start. The Falcons and Broncos previously faced on March 14 in a close 4-3 finish that favored WMU.

Making Of The Match

The match began in doubles play where the Falcons were able to pick up the first point of the day. At No. 3 doubles, Selina Karg and Hannah Neuman won in straight points for a 6-0 sweep.
Ayumi Sasaki and Ioanna Tsadari were able to claim a win at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point. After trailing as late as 2-1, the duo battled back to claim a 6-4 win and give the Falcons a 1-0 advantage.
The Falcons would soon pick up a singles point as well with Marharita-Sophia Tavpash taking No. 1 singles. Tavpash won the first set 6-3 before Buffalo's Pia Schwarz withdrew from the match, resulting in a win for Tavpash.
The next point for the Orange and Brown came from the No. 5 singles court where Karg tallied her second win of the day, taking the first set by a score of 6-4 before going 6-2 in the second to push the BGSU lead to 3-1 on the day.
The Falcons would soon clinch the win for the day with Bettinelli picking up a No. 6 singles win to push the score to 4-2 Bowling Green. Bettinelli won the first set handily with a score of 6-1 before battling in the second for a 7-5 win.

Falcon Stat Facts

Playing doubles together for the first time, the freshman duo of Selina Karg and Hannah Neuman played to a 6-0 sweep. On the season, Karg now has seven doubles wins while Neuman has three.
With a doubles win, Ayumi Sasaki moved up the combined wins list, now tied with Patty Bank for 25th with 121 combined career wins.
