BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University tennis program celebrated the program's four seniors on Friday (April 30) before capturing a 5-2 victory over Eastern Michigan to close out the home portion of the season's schedule. The Falcons tallied wins on five of the six singles courts for the win and will have one more match this season, being Sunday (May 2) against Miami. The Orange and Brown will head to Oxford with a 13-6 overall record while being 9-4 within the MAC.

Making Of The Match

After Eastern Michigan won the doubles point, the Falcons soon responded with the first singles point to even the day's score at 1-1. Selina Karg was able to win with scores of 6-1 and 6-0 to tally the point for Bowling Green.
The Orange and Brown soon added another singles point with Marharita-Sophia Tavpash capturing a win with scores of 6-2, 6-0 to give Bowling Green a 2-1 advantage on the day.
The Falcons would add the next point as well with Yulia Kapitanova claiming a singles with scores of 6-1 and 6-2 after jumping out to 4-1 leads in both sets.
Bowling Green continued to add singles points with Marta Bettinelli snagging a win as well to clinch the match win for the Falcons with the score at 4-1 for the day with two singles courts remaining.
Moments later the Falcons added another singles point, this one from Ioanna Tsadari who needed extra points in both sets with scores of 7-5, 7-5 for what would be the final BGSU point of the day in the 5-2 win.

Falcon Stat Facts

With a singles win, Marharita-Sophia Tavpash moved up to 68 career singles wins, tied for 17th all-time with Jenny Schwartz and Kelsey Jakupcin. The win also marked the 150th of her career, which placed her in sole possession of seventh all-time for combined career wins.

Up Next

Bowling Green will conclude their season on Sunday (May 2) as they travel to face the Miami RedHawks for a match that will begin at 1 p.m. The Falcons topped Miami in the first meeting on March 28 in a 5-2 final.
