May 19, 2021 | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Michael Huger have announced the signing of Gabe O'Neal. O'Neal, immediately eligible with two years of eligibility, is a 6-7 forward from Cincinnati, Ohio. The Princeton High School product averaged 4.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and shot 64.2 percent from the field at Kent State University in 2020-21.
"I'm excited to have Gabe O'Neal join our roster," said coach Huger. "Gabe is an in-state player that has experienced success at the high school, JUCO and college levels. Coming from Kent State, Gabe already knows the physicality and competitiveness of MAC basketball. Gabe will provide a toughness, a post presence, low-post scoring and a relentless effort on the boards. His physical play will make him a relentless matchup for our opponents. The next two years are bright with Gabe wearing a Falcon uniform! Welcome to BGSU, Gabe!"
The Cincinnati native scored in double figures in Mid-American Conference play two times in 2020-21, including a 10-point game on 4-of-4 shooting inside the Stroh Center on Feb. 9. O'Neal also added 10 points and seven rebounds versus Miami on Feb. 2. The forward went 17-of-21 (81.0 percent) from the foul line on the season, and converted at least one field goal in 12 MAC games. O'Neal grabbed multiple rebounds for the Golden Flashes in 14 contests a season ago.
O'Neal averaged 10.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 32 games at Mineral Area College (NJCAA) in 2019-20. He scored in double figures 17 games that season and topped 20 points a total of two times.
O'NEAL ON JOINING THE FALCONS
"I'm excited to be staying in Ohio, the MAC and wear the Falcon uniform. The coaching staff, opportunity to play and family culture were the main reasons why I chose BG. I'm excited to bring a physical post presence to the team and compete for a MAC Championship. I can't wait to get to work and get the Stroh Center rockin'!"
