May 19, 2021 | Men's Basketball
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's basketball program and head coach Michael Huger have announced the addition of Joe Reece. Reece, a 6-foot-8 forward, comes to Bowling Green after playing his first three seasons of college basketball at Old Dominion University. Reece, who is immediately eligible with two seasons of eligibility, averaged 7.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 2020-21 at ODU.
"I'm thrilled to add Joe Reece to our program. Joe is a versatile forward that comes from a successful program at Old Dominion," said Coach Huger. "On the court, he will be able to play multiple positions, while displaying an ability to rebound, defend and score in a variety of ways. Joe has the ability to score on the low block, slashing from the perimeter and also shoot from outside. He will be a welcomed addition to our front court. Off the court, he will provide vocal leadership and a battle-tested mentality that will help us compete at the top of the MAC. Falcon fans will love seeing Joe in the Orange and Brown for the next two years! Welcome to the family, Joe!"
A native of St. Louis, Missouri, Reece played in 60 games for the Monarchs over three seasons. Reece started 11 games as a sophomore before starting in all 22 of his appearances in 2020-21. The forward scored in double figures eight times as a junior, including a season-high 16 points against 2021 NCAA Tournament-participant Norfolk State. In a season that saw ODU go 15-8, Reece pulled down six-plus rebounds a total of eight times. He averaged 25.5 minutes per game, knocked in 10 three-pointers and shot 46.5 percent from the field.
In 2019-20, Reece's sophomore campaign – in which he averaged 19.1 minutes per game – was highlighted by a 19-point game at Rice. He also pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds in a 2020 Conference USA Tournament game versus Florida Atlantic. Reece played in six games as a freshman for ODU in 2018-19 after graduating from East St. Louis Senior High School in 2018. In total, Old Dominion went 54-36 in three seasons with Reece on the roster.
REECE ON JOINING THE FALCONS
"First and foremost, I'm extremely blessed and thankful to be given the opportunity to play the game I love at the collegiate level. I am also thankful to be able to put on the orange and brown colors and show my talents at BGSU. I'm looking forward to showing my abilities and athleticism on both sides of the floor. I'm also looking forward to giving it my all every day on the court, as well as the classroom. Excited for the next step and excited to continue putting on for the 314 💯"
