MAC Backstroke Champion Adds to her massive collection of awards & honors
RICHMOND, Va. -- Bowling Green State University swimming standout Daisy Platts has been named to the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team for the 2020-21 season. The award recognizes students who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and were invited to compete at their respective national championship.
This is just the latest honor for Platts, who dominated the Mid-American Conference backstroke events again in 2020-21. The junior won the 200 backstroke event at the MAC Championships, breaking her own school record. That came one day after Platts won the conference title in the 100 backstroke, breaking the school record in that event as well.
Platts has won the 200 backstroke in all three of her seasons at BGSU, and she has captured both the 100 and 200 back in each of the last two seasons. Platts has been named to the All-MAC First Team in each of her first three years with the Falcons.
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections (also called Honorable Mention) must have also earned a 3.50 GPA or higher and achieved a "B" time standard for the national championship or participated at a diving zone qualification meet. Due to the cancellation of the Division III and NAIA championship, the CSCAA established time standards for qualification based on a standard deviation of previous national championship participation. All criteria can be found on the CSCAA website.
Recently, the Falcons were named a Scholar All-America Team for the Spring 2021 semester. BGSU had the fifth-highest grade-point average of all NCAA Division-I women's programs across the nation, with a team GPA of 3.80 in the spring.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
