Three-Time Defending MAC Champions are the Pick to Win MAC Tournament
The Bowling Green State University women's soccer program has been picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference this season. The 2021 preseason poll, the result of voting by the conference's 12 head coaches, was released by the league office on Wednesday morning (Aug. 18).
Head coach Jimmy Walker's club garnered totals of 132 points and five first-place votes to place just behind Buffalo in the preseason poll. The Bulls received 136 points and the other seven first-place votes, while Ball State earned 119 points to finish third in the poll.
Western Michigan was tabbed to finish fourth, while Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan, Miami, Ohio, Kent State, Akron, Toledo and Northern Illinois rounded out the poll.
The Falcons were the choice of the coaches to capture the conference tourney crown. BGSU received six votes to win the MAC Tournament, while UB earned four and BSU and WMU one apiece.
BGSU went 6-1-1 overall and 5-1-0 in MAC play in 2020(-21), outscoring opponents by a 17-3 count in the spring, and the Falcons tied for first in the entire nation in shutout percentage (.750), recording six shutouts in eight matches. BG earned the MAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships for the third consecutive season.
BGSU is 47-19-8 overall, 31-7-1 in MAC regular-season matches and 38-8-3 in all games vs. conference foes since the start of the 2017 season.
Since the beginning of the 2018 campaign, the Falcons are 34-12-7 overall, 25-3-0 in MAC regular-season action and 30-3-2 in all games vs. league opposition.
